As many of our Panther friends will return to school next week, this is a great time to practise proper mask hygiene. First recommendation, over the next few days, increase the duration that your child wears their mask. Teach them to remove the mask by the ear elastics/ties rather than touching the face of the mask. Children will be provided with 5 cloth masks on their first day, but children are welcome to wear a mask that shows their inner ninja. Have fun with masks so that they are not seen as scary but just a way to keep everyone safe.
Second recommendation, if your child is nervous about it, share social stories that might help them. Stories such as Lucy’s Mask is a great story for our youngest learners. Another new favourite is The Masked Ninja. These stories will help normalize the purpose of masks. But some of our young friends will need more. Our staff is working hard to ensure that kids will have the supports they need. Our child and youth worker and our school’s social worker will be additional supports for children that need it.
